Jabs of Truth.

Have you been reading the word “jabs” to describe the covid 19 vaccine? It stood out because it not only covered headlines but was also present in copy or body text. I thought it would be interesting to analyse, so here I am. Firstly, I am not an expert in writing, nor am I above the general requirements of writers, which is to make their writing interesting for their readers.

“Jabs” is an eye catching word and fun to say. Although, it seems out of context in descriptions of the covid 19 crisis and the following vaccinations drive the world faced and is currently working on.

Perhaps vaccine didn’t have the same ring to it, but wouldn’t it be more appropriate? Or they are avoiding taking onus on the information they deliver to the public.

Truth is the companies who make the vaccine have they themselves been avoiding liability. They have lobbied with the GOI to allow non liability for the covid 19 vaccine. The GOI has not buckled. So the newspapers have likely followed suit.

The other side of the argument is that the media doesn’t want to wrongly get the public’s hopes up because the manufacturers themselves don’t feel confident. Do they want to tone down the conversation to water cooler talk (on Zoom) from serious discussion? If that’s the case, explain this headline to me:

“Post Jabs, India May Get Back On Its Feet In The Second Half Of 2021.”

POST JABS? It’s so ridiculous one needs a few moments to comprehend what the headline means! I’m all for avoiding lawsuits — in that, I’d rather print out that my coffee is hot than pay a fine to an imbecile who believes that is grounds for a lawsuit, but not taking responsibility is playing dirty. And I expect manufacturers and the media to do better in this regard. How about you?
